It’s almost the weekend and you’re looking forward to heading out on the town and dancing away those stressful weights on your shoulders. Then you see your reflection in the office window/computer screen/mirror. Your eyes are puffy and you look less party-mode, more exhaustion-mode. Never fear, Coveted Canvas has the solution!
Lots of things can cause the eye area to swell, including water retention, lack of sleep and sleeping with your head in line with your back (Yes! It’s not only bad for your posture not to use a pillow, but it gives you puffy eyes, too). Alcohol and a diet high in salt can also increase the risks of puffy eye-syndrome. If you’re a contact lens wearer, irritation can contribute to puffy and bloodshot eyes. See your optometrist for alternative lens options. Other contributing factors to puffy eyes include smoking, rubbing the area, allergies, dry hair and leaving makeup on overnight (no!).
To de-puff, remember to remove makeup every night, don’t rub the eye area and take antihistamines if you have allergies. A light-weight, fragrance free moisturiser can help reduce dryness in the area and lower puffy eyes, as can the old-age rule of a cool compress on the eyes (The Body Shop makes a divine one you can put in the freezer for 30 minutes and then place on your eyes. It’s very nice).
If all else fails (although it shouldn’t!), wear sunnies!
