Buzzing, Whirring, Wonderful

When I was in high school there was a single girl in our year that used an epilator to remove the hair from her legs.  We’d never tried it, she did it every time and absolutely swore by it. One day, the rest of us went to the shops and played with one in a shaver shop.  It whirred and scared us.  I’ve never thought about using one since.

My theory is that if you can shave to remove hairs free of pain, why do anything else?  Well, my friends, I had to eat my words over the last weekend because I epilated the bajeezus out of my legs and while it hurt, the results are amazing.

Using the new Braun Silk-Epil Xpressive 7681 epilator, I wiped my skin with the provided Olay pre-epilating moisturising wipes, waited 30 seconds, clenched my teeth and then went for it.  The pain felt like lots of little pin pricks but it barely lasted.  Anyone with a relatively normal pain threshold would be fine using this product.  I’m a wuss, admittedly.

I had to go over my legs twice because the epilator missed some hairs but since they’ve all been removed, I still haven’t had to shave.  That’s nine days of hair-free legs.  The Silk-Epil Xpressive 7681 could just be the perfect accessory for summer.

The close grip technology Braun use means hairs as small as 0.5mm are able to be plucked with this little whirring piece of goodness.  The grip is great and you feel completely in control, able to stop if the pain is too much.  That probably won’t happen though, thanks to the high frequency massage system that smoothes and stimulates skin as the epilator goes about its business.

You can use the epilator in the shower or bath, wash the whole lot and it’s even re-chargeable.  Best of all, it comes with a range of heads and attachments so you can use it on your face, body or legs.  Perfect.

RRP $208.95 from electrical outlets and major department stores.
