I’ve been a fan of Gossip Girl since I read an excerpt in a magazine during high school and started to collect the books. When I read through all the Australian-released ones, I quickly snapped the last four of the series up from New York in 2007. Then, when I heard there was to be a television show, I was ecstatic. Not a fan of Vanessa when I read about her, seeing her on screen was another story. Jessica Szohr has got charisma and I love, love, love her off duty look and red carpet inspiration. Exhibit A – this perfect premier look that could work for everyday people like you and me when we head out for dinner with the girls or on a hot date…
The reason it’s amazing is because it looks as though she hasn’t even tried – just slicked on some makeup and put some clips in her hair, and out the door she goes.
To copy, make sure your skin is in impeccable condition. Use a serum at night and before your foundation to make the best base for your base. Using a brush, lightly blend in your foundation (liquid will give you more of a glow) and line your eyes with a kohl liner. Slick with some black mascara and get started on the lips – the winning feature here.
While Jess’ colour looks a little red, a better and more on-trend shade to use would be a bright coral. Tom Ford’s lip colour in True Coral (RRP $65) is an amazing choice (and not just for its killer packaging). The colour lasts at least eight hours and has a bright tinge that doesn’t wash you out. First, apply a balm or a lip repair onto your lips to create the best base. Next, apply the colour with a brush, blot with a tissue and reapply with the brush. Lastly, pop your finger in your mouth and pull out – this little trick will remove the lipstick that would ordinarily stick to your teeth and ruin the whole look.
Blend a tiny bit of illuminator on your cheekbones and a slick of coral-brown blush on your cheeks and you’re set for makeup.
Jess’ hair is naturally dried, straightened and smoothed a little with tongs, and then pinned back to the side of her head. Without the bright, punchy makeup this would look childish, but with it, it works. Yes!
Add a fake tan and you’re done!
