Spa Treatments at Home

In Anti-Ageing, Bath, Complexion, Dry Skin, Everyday, Exfoliation, Face, Scent, Skin Care, Spa, Women on October 13, 2010 at 6:00 am

Uspa are an Australian company combining botanical ingredients and therapeutic results to create the ultimate spa experience. I first found their products at Hidden Valley Eco Retreat in WA and have been on the lookout since. I was lucky enough to be sent some fabulous Uspa products to try at home and they do not disappoint.

Working on the computer for most of the day, I’m a huge lover of refreshing sprays.  Simple water sprays are nice, rose water are even better.  Uspa have a gorgeous little Damask Rose Hydrosol spray that’s perfect for refreshment around the 3pm mark.  I’m loving the fact the 50mL size fits into my purse and I can use it when I’m flustered on the job.

Pretty Old Face

In Anti-Ageing, Celebs, Complexion, Dry Skin, Everyday, Face, Industry Insiders, Invisible, Makeup, Models, Multitasking, Natural, Skin Care, Sun, Tan, Tested, UVA, UVB, Weather, Women, Wrinkles on October 11, 2010 at 6:00 am

I like to think that when I’m 40 I’ll have the soft skin of a baby, wrinkle-free and of the perfect tone.  Of course, given I spend a lot of time in the sun this is cause for prevention.  As you know, sun damage causes premature aging, wrinkles and pigmentation of the skin – nobody wants that!

One of Invisible Zinc‘s faces, the 40-something and fabulous Elle MacPherson showcases the kind of skin women over the age of 35 dream of.  No doubt she was told in her modelling days to slip, slop, slap but no one wants to wear a thick sheet of sunscreen under their foundation – too sticky, too gross.

Think Safe, Work Safe

In Anti-Ageing, Complexion, Everyday, Face, Maintenance, Sun, Tan, UVA, UVB, Weather, Women, Wrinkles on October 7, 2010 at 6:00 am

As a journalist, I can find myself running out of the office and chasing up stories before I have a chance to stop and think about the consequences… to my skin.  For that very reason, I am loving the 50mL, purse-sized Clinique SPF 30 Face Cream with SolarSmart.  Whenever I know I’m off to a job, I slather it on my face, neck and ears because I always have it handy!

Tinted Moisturiser Test: True Solutions

In Anti-Ageing, Complexion, Everyday, Makeup, Sun, Tested, Tinted Moisturiser, UVA, UVB, Weather, Wrinkles on September 23, 2010 at 6:00 am

The second tinted moisturiser to come under scrutiny is True Solution‘s All Day Moisture Tinted.  Coming in cool orange and white packaging (I love orange.  It’s because of my love affair with everything Hermes, I believe), this baby packs a big colour punch!

This tinted moisturiser has more coverage than Jane Iredale‘s version but is also heavier and smells more like sunscreen.  That is probably because however, All Day Moisture Tinted has a higher SPF of 30.   Read the rest of this entry »

In Anti-Ageing, Complexion, Dermalogica, Industry Insiders, Skin Care, Sun, Tan, UVA, UVB, UVR, Weather, Wrinkles on September 16, 2010 at 6:00 am

When the lovely ladies at Dermalogica offered me the chance to get some info about being sun smart (in every which way) from their Australasian Education Manager, Emma Hobson, I jumped at the chance to pass it on to you!  So here it is, everything you need to know about being smart in the sun (with the most important bits in bold for you).

Sleep Well, Wake Pretty

In Anti-Ageing, Eyes, Primer on September 7, 2010 at 6:00 am

What do you notice when you first wake up?  Is it you feel you need 10 more hours in bed?  Is it the sunshine streaming in your window?  Or is it the dreaded heavy feeling under your eyes that let you know you have bags there before you even raise your head from the pillow?  More often than not, mine’s the latter.

I have been trialling Estee Lauder‘s Advanced Night Repair Eye for about a month now and wow, can I notice the difference.  This little pot of thick, gel-like cream is kind of miraculous.  You see, on the days I don’t wear it, I get really bad bags upon waking.  When I do wear it, I wake with smooth eyes and – in addition – have noticed fine lines disappear.

‘Getting Down & Dirty with Dermalogica’

In Anti-Ageing, Breakouts, Celebs, Chapped, Cheeks, Complexion, Dermalogica, Dry Skin, Events, Everyday, Exfoliation, Eyes, Face, Favourites, Flourish, Fun Stuff, Hands, How To, Industry Insiders, Kiss of Approval, Lips, Moisturiser, Multitasking, Neck, Packaging, Preparation, Primer, Redness, Skin Care, Tested, Tip, UVA, UVB, Western Australia on August 23, 2010 at 6:00 am

Last Tuesday night the lovely editor of Flourish magazine online, Jane and I attended a Blogger event at Dermalogica‘s WA headquarters in Fremantle.  The first to arrive amidst an August shower, I was greeted by three lovely smiling (and completely flawless) faces, one of which was Claire Crouch’s – the company’s corporate trainer.  Claire grew up in London out of the harsh sun and thus has magnificent skin and a killer sense of humour.  I liked her immediately.  In front of the pretty faces sat a large plate of scones from which I was too scared to take on account of their delicious-looking, but will-definitely-drop-on-the-clinical-Dermalogica-floors cream fillings.  Instead, I took a glass of champers.  Damn.

Jane arrived not long after and we had a quick tour of the complex.  It’s all very white and bright and exciting because that’s exactly how you want your skin to be!  There were two training rooms, a face-mapping stall set up, a kitchen area with fridge, microwave, herbal teas, etc and bathrooms too.  The facility is there for therapists who use Dermalogica products to go and get the low down on ingredients and skin health so they can then transfer it to their customers.  Brilliant!

Tina, Jane, me and Claire in front of the Dermalogica shop (I want it all!)

After our tour, we headed into Room 2 where a powerpoint presentation and lots of Dermalogica goodies were set up for us, amidst notepads, pencils and information booklets.  We took a seat and Claire launched right into explaining the five Dermalogica steps to healthy skin, while Tina kindly demonstrated (how brave!) as we went along.  Much information was shared and it is my beauty editor duty to pass it on.  So grab a cup of green tea and settle in for a mind-blowing info sesh that will change your skin forever! Tres Magnifique!

In Anti-Ageing, Complexion, Face, Preparation, Skin Care on July 26, 2010 at 8:00 am

I have a rather non beauty editor-y confession to make: until this year, serums weren’t even on my radar.  When I did hear about them, I was skeptical.  I mean, another thing to add to my daily routine?  No thanks.  But I did and gee, have I changed my tune.

Then I heard about another step – concentrate.  More time in the bathroom?  Geez.  But… After using Lancome’s Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate for only 2 weeks, my skin was – dare I say it – perfect! I used to have the problem of medium to largish pores, but with Genefique smoothed onto my face and neck post-toning, pre-serum, they tightened and closed to create the perfect basis for foundation.

Simon Says, Do What This Post Says

Okay guys, I know you all wander over to the blog for tips and tricks, how to’s, product reviews, comps and more, and sometimes it can seem a bit daunting to you.  I mean, you’re being inundated with all this information about what to put on your skin/hair/eyes that it can be overwhelming (you should see my storage cupboards!).  So for this post I’m going to make it a bit easier for you.  This is a product review and tips post.  It’s also a must read!  If you choose to only read one post on CC (although that would be seriously detrimental to your beauty wellbeing), this is The One.

I’d like to talk about morning rituals.  What do you do when you wake up in the morning?  I stretch, check my emails and Twitter ( I can hear you groaning, J) and then hop in the shower.  Here’s where the skin ritual begins and it goes a little something like this:

Exfoliate with a mit.

Cleanse face.

- hops out of shower and towel dries – Read the rest of this entry »
