Primary School Memories with Face Of Australia

In Clinique, Everyday Essentials, Lips, Lipstick, Makeup on June 4, 2012 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

When I think Primary School, I think colouring with wind-ups, fun and hints of colour in my first ever lip balms.  So, it’s no surprise that the new Face of Australia Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons evoke precious Primary School memories when used.

.

A steal at only RRP$14.95 for the three shades, the Face Of Australia Crayons are a necessity for everyday.  I’ve been wearing ‘Sundae’ (middle) to work every day and have found lips to stay moisturised throughout the morning – quite a feat in the Sydney winter. ‘Macaron’ allows enough of a tint to replace a rose lipstick if moisture is what you’re after.  To state the obvious, the Face Of Australia Crayons are blatant copies of Clinique Chubby Sticks (RRP$35), however the price point and intense moisture can’t be ignored.  If the colour is what you’re after, though, a Clinique Chubby has more staying power. Keep the Crayons for everyday and Chubby for night.

Alter Ego: Anja with Illamasqua ‘Human Fundamentalism’

Illamasqua’s latest range, Human Fundamentalism, is fun. Really, truly fun!  The idea with Illamasqua products is that you create your alter ego, and with a focus on white and bright skin in Human Fundamentalism, what better alter ego to use as a muse than the white and bright Anja Konstantinova?  Using the photo above, this is how I interpreted Illamasqua’s Human Fundamentalism -

.

How I Started: Fresh faced, with clean hair and not a scerrick of makeup.

.

Conceal: With Estee Lauder’s Disappear in ’02 – Light’, I concealed any possible dark areas, including around the mouth, under the eyes and the nose crease. Read the rest of this entry »

A Natural Lip Balm for Night

In Lips, Lipstick, Natural, Organic on January 19, 2012 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Night time has never been so fun!  Bathing Beauty Organic Apothecary have just released one of my new favourite products and it comes with a fun name and even more fun tube.  The Hurraw! Moon Night Treatment Balm (RRP $9.50) smells delicious and comes in an oval lip balm tube that makes winding it up and down a helluva lot of fun.

.

Super creamy and rich, this organic balm doesn’t have me licking my lips due to nasty chemicals (a sad side-effect of the popular Lucas’ Paw Paw ointment) because I’m smelling my lips instead.  Vanilla and Peru Balsam helps me nod off to sleep, while the Chamomile gets to work throughout the eight hours I’m getting some shut-eye (I lie, but damn I wish it were that long…).

Day Makeup, Transformed For Night With Just Three Products

In Evening, Events, Invisible, Lips, Lipstick on November 21, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Picture this: You’re meeting the girls for dinner after work but don’t have time to drive home and change. Your chic black dress is there for you to slide into once the clock hits 5pm, but you don’t want to be lugging your whole makeup case around with you.  No need to – these three products will have you out the door and looking fab in no time.

1. The Red Lipstick

Ciccone Cosmetics lipstick in 'Aphrodite' (RRP$25)

This lipstick by Ciccone may look garish on the outside but the product itself is far from that. A deeper red than the more popular shades, ‘Aphrodite’ adds a smack of sex appeal to your look.  It’s easy to slide on and sits between matte and lux on finish.  Definitely one for the night bag. Current Obsession: Tangerine Lipstick

Summer is fast approaching and there is one lipstick that will take you from day to night - NARS ‘Heat Wave’. I have never fallen so head over heels for a lipstick, let alone one with a matte finish, but the tangerine colour that pops loudly and proudly is a necessity for any summer wardrobe.

.

Wear it with an all-black outfit at night, a coral top on the weekend, jeans and a simple white tee at a picnic, or – my favourite – with a top-knot and a blazer at work.  Whatever you’re wearing, Heat Wave will amplify your look, ten-fold.  Fucking hot.

.

$58 from Mecca Cosmetica, and it pays for itself in compliments.

WELLBEING: Improve Your Lip Line

In Chapped, Lips, Lipstick on June 8, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Marian Rubock

I‘m often asked about what can be done to improve the appearance of lip lines as we grow older. It is always a challenging area to treat because we use this part of our face all day long – from talking and laughing, to eating and drinking – we definitely give these muscles a workout!

Laughter is the best medicine, but what happens to your lips?

Before we explore possible solutions to this, let’s go back to basics and look at what causes our skin to wrinkle.  To understand this, you first need to know that the skin is made up of three layers – epidermis (top layer), dermis (second layer which is actually comprised of two layers) and subcutaneous tissue (third and deepest layer).

The dermal layer contains important structural elements like collagen and fibres controlling the skin’s elasticity. In essence, a wrinkle is formed when there is either partial or full loss of this second layer.

Wrinkles can be classified as either static or dynamic. A static wrinkle is formed when there is full loss of the dermis and the top layer of skin (epidermis) folds down into it. You may notice this when you speak and also when you face is at rest. Read the rest of this entry »

Want to Wear Lippy this Winter? Here’s Your Stepping Stone.

In Colour, Lips, Lipstick, New on April 13, 2011 at 6:00 am

As we cross over into the winter months (slowly but surely), everything seems to darken. I don’t just mean the obvious change from sunny to overcast, but hairstyles change from sun kissed to brunette, clothes go from bright patterns to dark statement pieces and for some, the fake tan gets darker in a bid to make up for the lack of sun.

Makeup for Fall/Winter 2011 has followed trend, with a more gothic/vampire feel, featuring dark plum lips contrasted with bright pale skin.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to trial the ‘Sheer Lip Colour’ Lipstick by Sax in a sheer deep plum.  I was a little wary that it was quite a statement colour so I thought it would be best to test drive in doors before going out.

.

To my surprise it was actually a very deceptive colour, the lipstick itself looks quite dark, but then when applied it was like a moisturising gloss, leaving my lips looking stained and very natural. I felt like this shade of plum was like a training bra to the real thing. Read the rest of this entry »

The New Olsen

In Celebs, Favourites, Lipstick on March 9, 2011 at 6:00 am

She was around at Sundance Film Festival this year thanks to her performance in Silent House, and since then, she’s been popping up on fashion blogs everywhere.  With her dark hair and more casual style, Elizabeth Olsen is fast become a favourite to this brunette beauty editor!

.

More than her hair and style, I love the third Olsen’s red lips in the above pic.  They’re not bright, but they are a stand out.  A deep red adds a little extra vamp to the classic lip colour.  Want to copy?  Tom Ford’s Private Blend Lip Colour in ‘Smoke Red’ (RRP $65) is the perfect match!

Is it a Gloss or a Lipstick?

In Gloss, Lips, Lipstick on February 28, 2011 at 6:00 am

When I was at high school, I was all about the lip gloss.  Not too sticky, not too shiny, it had to be the perfect texture to make its way to my pout.  Since leaving and heading into the real, working world, I’ve become accustomed to lipsticks and the grown-up, classic look they provide.  Sometimes, though, you just need a little bit of gloss.

.

Enter MAC’s new Sheen Supreme Lipsticks.  The colour is intense, they glide on with ease (almost like a balm) and they feel modern – like you’re not wearing anything at all. Amazingly sexy feeling, too.   They could quite possibly be the perfect lipstick!  Definitely great for the woman making the transition from lipgloss to lipstick.

.

‘Ultra Darling’ is my favourite colour of the lot – a high-voltage, mid-tone yellow pink, perfect for party or office!

RRP $36 each, available from TOMORROW!

Tell me – are you a lip gloss or a lipstick kinda woman?
