By House of Ernest lead long hair artist, Joshua Congreve
We’re lucky to have House of Ernest, Perth, on hand to show us how to get the best looks and report back on all the fashion shows happening in the exciting corners of the world! First up, the salon’s lead long hair artist Josh shows us how to create the Top Knot – one of our editor’s favourite looks. Hairdressing for 8 years, Josh has worked with various magazines for their covers and with celebrities including Kelly Rowland and Carson Cressley, and is currently preparing a trip to Sydney to put on a show to inspire other Hairdressers at the Sydney Hair Expo. We hope to catch up with him when he’s here!
Step 1: Bring hair into a high ponytail on the top of you head, being sure to smooth the hair on your scalp into the pony. Read the rest of this entry »

The thought of never having to shave my underarms again is somewhere between finding the perfect foundation (shop lighting can be pretty betraying) and meeting Rachel Zoe, so I’ve decided to live a free lifestyle outside of the realms of our conventional society…
Ha! No, I joke. Actually, I’ve decided to commit myself to a minimum six treatments (at six weeks apart) of ‘Square Pulsed Light’ otherwise known as SPL. Sounds expensive? Sometimes yes, but I found that’s not the case if you visit the Hairfree Centre! I had my first appointment with the lovely Holly of the Hairfree Centre in Claremont last week, and I could even afford to do a little shopping afterward! Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve long been told my eye brows were ‘to die for’. They’re thick, black and long. Up until I learned how to handle a tweezer, ‘they’ were also an ‘a’. Yep, I was the child with an almost uni-brow. Pretty. When I did finally discover the way eyebrows can frame your face, I became pedantic in shaping them to perfection. Never going too thin, I was sure I had the look down-pat. Then there was a revelation.
After hearing fantastic reviews, I decided I’d let the experts have a go at taming my brows. I thought I could learn a thing or two. Turns out, I learned 98 834 things!
Camilla Belle and the eyebrows we all covet
The 30 minute consultation at Total Brow in Inglewood, Western Australia started with a chat about what I want from my brows. I told my amazing brow specialist, Amy, that I would like to keep them natural and thick. She squealed with delight, as thick brows were in (and always will be, in my opinion)! We then had a chat about what was wrong with my brows – or what I’d been doing wrong for the last 10 years – and how we would go about fixing it. Read the rest of this entry »

Whenever I head to Sydney, I notice something about the way the women there carry themselves. They are always busy and on the run in a pocket-NYC kind of way but they’re still completely calm in the face. I like to attribute it to their knowledge that a little relaxation goes a long way.
Del Aqua spa on the Sydney Harbour is a one stop hair and beauty emporium where that relaxation (and a transformation) can take place. When you enter the picturesque spa, you enter an environment of purity, tranquility and simplicity to calm the mind, body and spirit.

Walking into Head Studio is like walking into the party you always wanted to go to, at the exact moment you wanted to be there. The staff are hip and clad in the funkiest on-trend outfits naturally matching their ahead-of-the-trend hair. The atmosphere is buzzing with creativity, the clans of white candles drip wax artistically onto the tables and gilded mirrors make the long salon look larger than it is. Soothing indie tunes from an iPod allow clients to relax, while the coffee offered is the best salon quality I’ve ever had (it would be fit to serve at a cafe).
It’s only natural this aesthetically brilliant salon is nestled among Perth’s greatest boutiques in King Street and doesn’t seem (a hair) out of place. The staff obviously shop at their neighbouring stores and know their stuff when I name drop hair styles from the likes of Tiah Eckhardt and Pip Edwards (of Ksubi fame). Read the rest of this entry »

WTM Midland presents everything to you at face value. Take their name for instance. WTM – standing for Waxing, Tanning and Makeup – is exactly what they do, specialising in all three thrilling trades. Member of the team, Denise Barfield, explains, “Rather than just do those other things (facials, massages, etc) okay, we decided to do waxing, tanning and makeup really well.” Kinda seems obvious now you think about it, non?
