Pore-fect Pores

In Preparation, Skin Care, Tools on September 17, 2012 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

I’ve been blessed with pretty great skin. It rarely breaks out, is fairly even in tone, and gives off a nice dewy finish when slathered with any type of moisturiser. My only gripe? The pores are a little larger than I’d like them to be.

.

After reading up on what I could do to minimise my pores, I realised I’d let slip on one key step of all the best skincare routines – toner.

A product that’s often thought of as ‘meh, take it or leave it’, toner is great for removing extra makeup once you’ve cleansed, but its real hero result is in helping shrink pores, at least to the naked eye.

The Winter Facial

In Breakouts, Life Reset, Pimples, Redness, Skin Care, Weather, Women on July 6, 2012 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Winter can wreak havoc on your skin. The changing temperatures and dehydration caused from airconditioners and biting wind chill almost always result in redness and break-outs, neither of which are fun.  This winter, take time once a week to have a mini facial at home – your skin will thank you for it.

.

First things first – wash all the day off.  Using Garnier’s ExfoBrush in a very warm shower, swirl this magnificent product around and around to slough away dead skin, clean off makeup and stimulate blood to the surface, which will result in plump skin.  The ExfoBrush is my favourite Garnier product – I seriously cannot get enough! Buy one from your local supermarket tomorrow, you won’t look back.

Next comes treatment of any issues you have. Read the rest of this entry »

Combating Adult Acne

In Acne, Everyday, Everyday Essentials, Skin Care on June 7, 2012 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Adult acne can be one of the more embarrassing skin problems women are faced with.  We’ve past our teenage years, surely the acne should stay in the 1990s, too?  Hormones, weather and stress can all contribute.  Sadly, salon acne treatments can be expensive.  However, with a good  skincare routine comes clearer skin, and if that routine is acne-specific, all the better.

.

Natio have released an adult acne range that starts from only RRP$9.95, in all major stores now.  The cleanser is a particular favourite of mine, thanks to its pure consistency.  The clear product is a little watery, but good in that you only need very minimal to lather and see results.  Best of all, I noticed it’s not stripping and I can still complete my skincare routine without dry skin at the end of it.  Built in Cleanser-Toner means eliminating another step, always a plus.  Check out the range at Myer, Priceline and pharmacies today.

WELLBEING: Redness of the Skin – is it Rosacea?

In Skin Care, Wellbeing on November 25, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Marian Rubock

Rosacea is a skin disorder which affects many thousands of Australians each year. It may begin with slight redness of the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin, and is often mistaken for acne.  Typically, these symptoms worsen over time, creating persistent redness and the appearance of tiny blood vessels visible on the skin. While genetics can be a factor, we now know that diet, allergies and stress are major contributors to its development. Thankfully, there are natural treatments and remedies to combat rosacea and get your skin back to a healthy glow.

An example of Rosacea.

Although Rosacea is sometimes described as ‘adult acne’, or Rosacea Acne the condition is quite different, though the two conditions may co-exist. Unlike common acne, rosacea is rare in teenagers, occurring mostly in adults between the ages of 30 and 50. Rosacea strikes both men and women, and while it tends to be more common with women, the more severe cases tend to be with men. Read the rest of this entry »

Ladies, you have to agree with me there is nothing better than feeling sexy, confident and beautiful – just for you.  But how do you get that way if you’ve worked three different deadlines in a row, felt sick from lunch and been told some horrible news?  You schedule it!  Just like your dentist appointment or meeting your superiors, this is important, too.  Once a week is all I ask, and I’ll explain why it’s so great right now…

Tonight was my ‘Beauty Night’.  I try to schedule one a week or – failing that – one a fortnight.  On ‘Beauty Night’ everything gets done. And I mean everything.  Here’s my ‘To Do’ list…

.

Obviously there’s no way I could (nor should) do all these on a daily basis, so scheduling one night a week to check everything off the list is not only a great idea, but also something to look forward to.  Because you feel AMAZING afterwards.

.

It’s all in the products you use – ‘Beauty Night’ is not the night to skimp on products. On ‘Beauty Night’ it’s the best of the best.  Here are my must haves, working down the ‘To Do’ list: Read the rest of this entry »

Natural Body Scrubs – Not All Are Built Equal

In Complexion, Exfoliation, Moisturiser, Scent, Skin Care, Spa on November 18, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Body scrubs are one of those products that you don’t really need, and which can all be a bit same-same.  They exfoliate (so does shower gel with a loofah) and they wash off anyway, so why spend big, right?  Well, I had to eat my words when I tried Burt’s Bees Honey & Shea Sugar Scrub (RRP$29.95) because the experience and the results were amazing.

.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the Burt’s Bees Sugar Scrub tub is just how thick the product is – you literally have to dig down and then scoop out the scrub.  Next, I notice the texture – not too granular (read: not painful to use). Check and check!

WELLBEING: Vitamin D for Healthy Skin

In Everyday, Face, Skin Care, Sun, Tan, UVA, UVB, Wellbeing, Western Australia on October 28, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Marian Rubock

These days we often hear about the benefits of vitamin A, E and C for general wellbeing and glowing skin. Vitamin D, however, is often overlooked, yet it is just as important, if not more so. Vitamin D plays an important role in helping to reduce wrinkles and prevent conditions such as acne, so it is well worth making sure you are getting enough in your day-to-day life.  Vitamin D is a powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogen which can assist in the prevention of skin cancer, heart disease, diabetes and skin problems such as psoriasis.

.

It can also:

  • Enhance absorption of calcium and regulates phosphorous levels in blood.
  • Help with prevention of depression.
  • Help maintain a healthy immune system.
  • Assist with sleeping and anxiety.

All these benefits contribute to maintaining healthy skin. For example, while there may be no direct link between a vitamin D deficiency and acne, ensuring you have sufficient vitamin D can help resolve acne by making the skin and body healthier as a whole.

Botanics of Australia – Making Aussies Smell Great since 2011

In Bath, Cleanse, Eco Friendly, Everyday, New, Scent, Skin Care, Spa, Tested on August 15, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

Botanics of Australia is another of my latest great discoveries. Inspired by nature, boa allowed me to take time, relax, treat my body and smell amazing all at once when using their products.  It was an amazing experience.

I like to have fun with my products.

The boa Smoothing Body Scrub is the brand’s hero product thanks to its delicious lime smell.  It’s extremely zingy and took me a while to place the scent, which I decided reminded me of the lime lollies I used to get post-netball games as a child.  Fresh smelling and with delightful little Wattleseed exfoliants, the scrub has made its way into my ‘everyday essentials’.  Hero.  Read the rest of this entry »

WELLBEING: Control Your Psoriasis.

In Natural, Skin Care, Wellbeing, Western Australia on August 9, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Marian Rubock

You may have heard the word, ‘psoriasis’ thrown around in the news lately. Celebrities, Kim Kardashian and Fifi Box have recently come out saying they suffer from the condition and this has stirred discussions in the media about how it can impact your life.

Psoriasis is a skin irritation characterized by thick, silvery white scales and is surrounded by red inflammation.  It causes the skin to itch and when the lesion is scratched, it can result in bleeding and scarring.

Fifi Box recently said she has psoriasis.

Psoriasis can appear anywhere on the body, however it more commonly appears on the elbows, knees and lower back. Once it appears it has a tendency to reoccur. If you suffer from this skin irritant, don’t be alarmed – it can be managed and with a few simple steps, you can reduce the impacts of psoriasis.

Depending on the severity of it, psoriasis can impact on your everyday life – it can dictate what clothes you decide to wear and the foods you choose to eat. Your diet usually holds the key to the trigger for it in the first place.  Read the rest of this entry »
