Do You Want to Help a Woman Build Her Own Business?

In Charity, Dermalogica, Videos, Women on March 28, 2011 at 6:00 am

By Tammi Ireland

As you know from previous posts, I am a HUGE fan of Dermalogica.  Their products are fabulous, and I’m so intrigued and inspired by founder Jane Wurwand’s story. Now there’s another reason for me to rave about Dermalogica to my friends, and this one comes from the heart.

This year, Dermalogica helped to fund FITE, which is a global empowerment platform powered by Kiva.org, the nonprofit leader in microfinance, that is designed to foster Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship for women in the developing world.   View the video below to see how it works…

Dermalogica has invested all the research and development to make FITE possible. From supporting creation of the platform, to being the first partner to create a retail connection with its FITE products, to rallying its tribe of over 100,000 successful women entrepreneurs worldwide to join FITE, Dermalogica has helped make the vision of FITE a reality.

So here’s how we, as consumers, can help (and it doesn’t cost us anything but time, because we’d be buying the products anyway) -

All you need to do is buy a Dermalogica FITE product, go online with your promotional code which gives you $1USD and choose the country, city and type of business you would like to support.  Then you will receive an email from FITE telling you who your money has gone to and then you can follow their journey as they set up their business.  The products that are currently for FITE are Daily Microfoliant, PreCleanse, Skin Hydrating Booster, Total Eye Care and Intensive Eye Repair.

Look for the special FITE labels when purchasing your next lot of Dermalogica products.

When you’re going to be purchasing the fab Dermalogica products anyway, take some extra time to help women in need.

Meet Lauren Luke!

Have you met Lauren?  She’s the young self-taught makeup artist taking over the Internet community. Never one to fit in while at high school, Lauren turned to makeup to test out different looks and experiment.

After dropping out of school to have her son Jordan at age 16, Lauren started selling her old makeup products online to raise some money.  Along with the product itself, Lauren would post images of makeup looks you could achieve with the products and buyers started asking her more and more questions about how to achieve those looks.  As a result, she took the looks online. My good friends showed me this a few months ago and just reminded me of its hilarity.  Good beauty product campaigning if I ever saw it!  There’s a whole YouTube channel devoted to Old Spice.  Get on it now!

Product of the Day!

In Hair, How To, Party time, Product of the Day, Tested, Tools, Videos on April 9, 2010 at 2:11 pm

It had to happen – ghd hair straighteners have made it on to CC!  For this one, ladies, you need a bit of back story:  My hair is curly (in the way I can’t just wash and leave to dry because I’ll get little frizzies all over the place), thick, long (right down to my the middle of my back) and brown (you didn’t really need that, but now you have a complete picture).  It’s impossible for me to drip-dry my hair, I can’t overuse heating products because it damages my already old long hair and the thickness of my hair means I had to allocate an extra 40 minutes to my straightening routine.  Gross.

The two hair straighteners I had B-ghd were nice and all, but they just didn’t get the job done.  I would leave the house, usually late, with straight hair and then catch myself in a reflection 20 minutes later with wavy, boofy hair.  It just wasn’t working and I had to call those relationships off.  Then I found my love.
